Being on the water is our passion! The basics of reading the water, fly casting, fly selection, rigging, presentation, proper fighting and landing of fish make the fishing trip of your dreams.
From Trout to Bass, wild water or stocked waters, floating or wading our phenomenal waters in WNC and the Tri-Cities Tailwaters offers a fisherman’s dream experience.
Float Trip
The waters that are typically fished utilizing the Drift Boat are in WNC the Tuckasegee River and French Broad River; in Tennessee the Watauga and South Holston Tailwaters.
Wade Trip
The Wade fishing options are one of the best trout stocking programs in the country. Access can be very easy, riverside, or into backcountry setting with extra hiking.
Customizable
Castaway will personally customize a trip for you. Working with each client's needs to create a unique experience on and off the water.
Trip Requirements
- NC or TN fishing license
- Polarized glasses (highly recommended)
- Rain jackets (weather can change quickly)
- Transportation to the river (A GPS pin will be sent prior to meeting your guide)

How Many Guides?
The price you'll pay depends on the type of trip and number of anglers in your party. Float trips have a two anglers-per-boat maximum. Each boat requires a guide. Wade trips have a three anglers-per-guide maximum, although we suggest one guide for every two anglers for the best education and experience.
How Long Is The Trip?
Trips are available as half or full days! Half Day trips include four hours on the water, all tackle, fly rods and flies. Full Day trips include eight hours on the water, all tackle, fly rods and flies, plus lunch is included.

What Do I Bring?
Be sure to bring your North Carolina or Tennessee fishing license! If you have questions about obtaining one, don't hesitate to ask.
In addition, we strongly recommend polarized glasses and rain jackets as the weather on the river has a tendency to change rather quickly.
How Much Walking Is Required?
Roughly one mile of walking is done on Wade Trips.
How Far Is It To The River?
We'll do our best to make your journey as easy and enjoyable as possible. To make it easier, we'll send a GPS pin prior to your trip.
In general, expect about a 45 minute drive from Asheville.
Do I Tip? How Much?
Tipping is customary and encouraged. Our guides pride themselves on delivering the best adverture on the river for groups of all sizes. Anglers who have had great experiences generally tip 20%.
Deposit & Cancellation Policies
- We require a deposit of 50% of the trip’s total at the time of booking when making reservations 30 or more days in advance.
- For reservations made within 30 days of the scheduled trip, we require a deposit of the trip’s full value.
- Guide trip deposits are fully refundable when cancellations are made 14 days before the first date of a scheduled reservation.
- We are unable to offer any refunds of deposits when cancellations are made within 14 days of reservation.
- Weather cancellations will be at the Guide’s discretion.
- Weather cancellations will be rescheduled.
- Rain is not a reason for cancellation.
- Generally, we do not cancel trips due to inclement weather – monitor weather as trip approaches to bring clothing appropriate for conditions.
